The use of illegal drugs has been part of our society for many years. Whether you’ve taken them or are just curious and want to find out more about them, knowing the facts is one of the most important things you can do. Ignorance is not bliss. Knowledge gives you the power to make decisions for yourself.

Many people will say drugs are just harmless fun. All drugs come at a price. That price can be problems with parents and friends, damage to your own health, behaviour that puts you and others at risk and even death.

The best way to avoid these problems is simple. Don’t use drugs. Unfortunately, many will and if you are tempted you need to be aware of what you are letting yourself in for.

A national survey carried out in 2009 to estimate national and council prevalence levels indicated that there was a total of 1553 of problem drug users in East Lothian and Midlothian. This prevalence level for both areas was lower than the Scotland average. There were 381 drug injectors. There was a total of 16 drug related deaths in 2009.
